Oct 16 Adelphoi Receives $95,000 Grant from Staunton Farm Foundation to enhance behavioral health services for youth in detention
Latrobe Bulletin – Adelphoi announced a $95,000 grant from the Staunton Farm Foundation to pilot enhanced behavioral health services for youth placed in Highland Detention at Shuman Center.
This funding will address a critical need for mental health care among youth in detention, helping to mitigate the high prevalence of behavioral disorders and improve long-term outcomes.
Youth entering detention often exhibit significant mental health needs. Research shows that between 50-90% of youth in detention have at least one diagnosable disorder, including substance abuse, ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD and trauma-related issues. Despite this, many facilities lack the resources to provide comprehensive treatment during these crucial stages of intervention.
“Adelphoi recognizes that behavioral health services are essential for the successful rehabilitation of youth in detention,” said Nancy Kukovich, CEO of Adelphoi. “This grant from Staunton Farm Foundation enables us to offer vital clinical assessments, individual and group therapy, medication management, and post-discharge planning to address the underlying issues facing these young people.”
The pilot program will integrate behavioral health services with existing detention programming, ensuring that youth have access to qualified providers, including Licensed Clinical Social Workers, throughout their stay. It will also facilitate continuity of care as youth transition back into their communities, connecting them with resources for ongoing support.
This initiative builds on Adelphoi’s mission of delivering outcome-based treatment to at-risk youth and their families, empowering them to overcome negative circumstances and achieve resilience and independence.
